Christy Caravaglio

Name some artists that have influenced you: There is inspiration everywhere! Some themes that I continue to enjoy are site specific works that are humorous or make me rethink what I’m looking at, such as Zander Olsen’s “Tree, line” and Mehmet Ali Uysal’s “Giant Clothespin.” I also like colorful and playful works, and works that transform spaces, like those by Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam, Naomi RAG, London Kaye, and Amanda McCavour.

Share an artistic accomplishment you are proud of: When I suddenly had time on my hands, I took the leap into putting art out into the world in public spaces. I started small, continued on, and received great responses. I feel good that I was able to find my artistic voice.

Why do you teach art? To share art and craft is joyful. Making beautiful things makes me happy, and when I can share some of that happiness, it is magnified.

Christy Caravaglio is a fiber artist living in Kent, WA. From a young age she enjoyed making, especially stitching. Needlepoint and cross stitch in time turned into quilting and knitting. A lifetime of fiber arts, an arts degree, and 10 years in graphic arts all combine to inform her current work. While leading the teaching artist volunteer program at her local elementary school, Christy became much more aware of and enthusiastic about the community building value of the arts. Since 2018, she has been creating colorful yarn installations in public spaces. Christy has received 20 commissions for her yarn installations in 10 cities including Seattle, Edmonds, Renton, Auburn, Las Vegas NV, and Selma AL.
