Intro to Bookmaking for Kids (Sept 7 & 14)

In this hands-on class, students will learn how to make their very own handmade books—from cover to cover!

We will start by going over the basics of bookbinding using easy-to-learn techniques and tools. Then, students will get creative decorating canvas covers with paints, markers, stamps, and stencils to make a book that’s totally their own.  They will choose from a variety of papers for the inside pages, fold them into sections (called “signatures”), and hand-sew everything together using a simple binding method.

By the end of the class, everyone will walk away with a one-of-a-kind book they can use as a journal, sketchbook, or even to write their own stories—plus the skills to make more books in the future!

Taught by Nikki Mason, the workshop meets from 10am-12pm on September 7 & 14, and is open to kids ages 10-15. No experience is necessary. All materials provided by Happy Time.
